Wylde Farm Series: Planting Summer Crops (CANCELED)

Students will join Farmer Emily when the Wylde Center’s farms are transitioning from spring to summer.Students will help with the planting of the summer farm crops and the building of support structures, perfect skills that are easily replicated in your home garden or farm. If you have questions about what to plant, when, and how, this workshop will teach you what you need to know to get your summer garden started. To set your garden and farm up for success, you will learn weed pressure management through cultivation and mulching.

This workshop will include the following topics:

Summer crops

• Transitioning spring to summer
• Crop rotation
• Planting: depth and spacing of transplants and seeds

Support and maintenance

• support structures
• weed pressure management

Who is this series for? New and experienced gardeners, farmers, and folks who want to farm.

Cost: $35 for Wylde Center members (use promo code WYLDE MEMBER) and $45 for non-members. Participants must be ages 14 +. Participants ages 14-18 must be accompanied by a paid parent or guardian.

New for 2020, Wylde Center is offering weekend programs each month that will cover the basics of gardening and farming in Georgia. Each workshop will feature both a lecture and hands-on portion. We have designed our workshops based upon our actual farm schedule so you can get a real feel for the seasons and develop your own farm or garden site simultaneously. During the hands-on part of the class, participants will receive instruction as we work together to complete a seasonal project relevant to the lesson at one of our 3 farm sites.
