Lunch & Learn: Gardening with Shade-Tolerant Perennials (webinar)

September 18, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

On Friday, September 18, join Master Gardeners Frances Moriarty and Duran Dodson to learn more about Georgia native woodland plants, featuring many of those cultivated in the Wylde Woods at Oakhurst Garden.
Shade gardens are 10 to 15 degrees cooler than a sunny meadow or full sun garden, and in the South, that difference can be dramatic! Speakers will explain the meaning of “shade,” “part shade” and “part sun” for those interested in growing native woodland plants in their own garden, and offer suggestions on how to do that successfully. The old gardening principle, “right plant in the right place,” is especially important to understand here. Speakers will discuss early spring herbaceous plants, including the “spring ephemerals,” as well as the critical role of ground covers. Finally, they’ll recommend some of the best resources to learn more about plants native to the Georgia Piedmont region and tell you where they can be purchased locally.
A special THANK YOU to our wonderful Dekalb Master Gardeners & Wylde Woods volunteers for conducting this webinar!
